Scope of this policy

This policy explains how information is handled when this site is visited, when a message is sent through the contact form and when an account is created. It applies to the pages published under this domain and to nothing else that may be reached from them.

Reading the coverage pages needs no account and no details of any kind. Information is only handled where a form has been filled in and submitted on purpose.

Information provided directly

Forms on this site ask for a name, an email address, a phone number and a password, and the contact form allows a written message of any length. What is typed into those fields is what gets received, and no field asks for medical records, policy numbers or financial account details.

Where a message volunteers health detail so that a question can be answered properly, that detail is kept with the message and used only to write the reply.

Information collected automatically

Ordinary server records are kept when a page loads. These note things such as the browser and device type, the general region a request came from, the pages opened and the time of the request. Records of this kind describe traffic rather than people.

How information is used

Details submitted through a form are used to answer the message, to set up and maintain an account and to send the service updates a reader has agreed to receive. Automatic records are used to keep the site working, to spot faults and to understand which pages are being read.

Nothing submitted here is used to build a profile for resale, and no decision affecting coverage is made by this site.

Text message consent

The consent boxes on the signup form are optional and are recorded exactly as they were left. Service messages and marketing messages are treated as separate permissions, and neither is a condition of creating an account or of reading anything published here.

Message frequency varies. Standard message and data rates may apply. Replying STOP ends the messages and replying HELP asks for support.

Sharing and disclosure

Information is shared only with the service providers that make this site run, such as hosting and email delivery, and only to the extent needed for that work. Those providers are bound to use it for that purpose alone.

Information may also be disclosed where the law requires it, where it is needed to protect the safety of a person, or as part of the transfer of the site itself, in which case this policy travels with it.

Cookies and similar tools

Small files may be stored by the browser to remember a session and to measure how pages are used. Browsers allow these to be blocked or cleared, and the coverage pages remain readable when they are.

How long information is kept

Messages are kept for as long as the conversation they belong to is useful. Account details are kept while the account is open. Once neither applies, records are deleted or stripped of anything that identifies a person.

Security

Reasonable safeguards protect what is held, including encrypted connections and limited access to stored records. No method of sending information over the internet can be promised as perfectly secure, so sensitive material such as full policy or account numbers should not be sent through a form.

Choices available

A copy of what is held can be requested, corrections can be asked for, and deletion can be requested where no legal reason requires the record to be kept. Consent given for messages can be withdrawn at any point without affecting access to the pages.

Children

This site is written for adults making decisions about Medicare coverage. It is not directed at children, and no information is knowingly collected from them. Anything received in error is removed once noticed.

Changes to this policy

This policy is revised when the site changes or when the rules that apply to it change. The date at the top shows when the current version was published, and continuing to use the site after a revision means the current version applies.
